Research context

Kisspeptin-10 is the C-terminal decapeptide fragment of the KISS1 gene product, bearing an amidated C-terminus, and is the shortest fully active kisspeptin sequence characterized in the literature. In vitro and in animal models it has been characterized as an agonist at the kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R, formerly GPR54), a Gq/11-coupled receptor that activates phospholipase C and intracellular calcium signaling.

Research in transfected cell lines and rodent models has examined KISS1R binding, inositol phosphate and calcium responses, and receptor-mediated signaling cascades. Analytical characterization is routinely performed by reversed-phase HPLC and mass spectrometry to verify sequence, C-terminal amidation, and purity.
