Research context

SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a synthetic, N-terminally acetylated and C-terminally amidated octapeptide with the sequence Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH2. Structurally it is an elongated analogue of the N-terminal domain of SNAP-25, a component of the neuronal SNARE complex. In vitro and animal-model literature describes it within the SNARE-interacting peptide class, studied for competitive-type interaction with vesicle-docking machinery.

Research in isolated cell systems and rodent models has examined SNAP-8 in relation to SNARE complex assembly and neurotransmitter/catecholamine vesicle-fusion pathways. Analytical characterization has used reversed-phase HPLC together with ESI and MALDI mass spectrometry to verify the eight-residue sequence, the acetylation and amidation modifications, and overall purity.
