Research context

LL-37 is a 37-residue cationic peptide and the only human member of the cathelicidin family, derived from the C-terminus of the hCAP18 precursor, with molecular formula C205H340N60O53. In in-vitro and animal-model studies it has been described as adopting an amphipathic alpha-helical conformation that interacts with anionic microbial membranes and with host receptors such as FPR2 (formyl peptide receptor-like 1).

Reported research has examined its membrane-permeabilizing activity against cultured microorganisms, its conformational behavior in model lipid bilayers via molecular-dynamics simulation and spectroscopy, and receptor-binding and signaling readouts in isolated immune-cell cultures and rodent models.
