Research context

KPV is a synthetic linear tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val) corresponding to the C-terminal sequence of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), with molecular formula C16H30N4O4. In vitro and in animal-model literature it has been described as interacting with melanocortin-related signaling and as being taken up by cells through the PepT1 peptide transporter. Reported cell-culture work associates it with modulation of NF-kB transcription-factor signaling.

Research characterizing KPV has examined its cellular uptake in intestinal epithelial cell lines, its effect on pro-inflammatory transcription-factor activation in isolated cell cultures, and its behavior in rodent models of mucosal inflammation.
