Research context

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, derived from the endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin and extended at the C-terminus to increase stability. In vitro and in animal models it has been studied in relation to GABAergic signaling and modulation of enkephalin-degrading enzyme activity. Reported literature also describes interactions with monoamine- and interleukin-related gene expression.

Research in isolated cell and rodent models has examined its signaling activity, effects on enkephalinase (enkephalin-degrading) enzyme activity, monoamine turnover in brain tissue, and expression of cytokine/interleukin genes. Analytical characterization has used HPLC and mass spectrometry to confirm peptide identity, sequence, and purity.
